As a webmaster, you are always trying to find your particular “niche” for certain keywords that will make you successful. Success can be defined by the number of people that visit your website or by other aspects such as the amount of revenue generated. Personally, I base my success on the amount of income gained by creating and building websites.

One step to finding online success is by focusing on particular keywords. Generally, it’s ideal to build a website around a topic that you enjoy writing about. Assuming this is the case, when deciding on a domain name, you need to choose particular keywords that will describe the given topic and be priority words that people will use on search engines.

One of the most helpful tools for knowing how many results a particular word or phrase generates can be determined quite easily. The best tool that I have come across for this duty is found at SEOBook.com.

SEOBook gives a daily estimate for the amount of times a certain word or phrase is searched during any given day. It tracks all of the major search engines including Google, Yahoo! and MSN.

Here’s an example, I simply typed in the phrase “rabbit hole”. SEOBook’s keyword research tool returned a daily estimate of 45 searches on Google, 13 searches on Yahoo! and 6 daily searches on MSN. That’s an overall number of about 63 searches for a simple and obscure phrase. Now imagine that you get your website number one on these search engines for a result like this. That would likely give you about 60 unique visitors per day just from search engines alone (I couldn’t imagine the term “rabbit hole” being too competitive).

The highest paying keywords are terms like mesothelioma, law attorneys and insurance but these are highly competive keywords because they pay so much on advertising programs like Google Adsense.

Here’s my best advice- Do some research of your own. Find a keyword niche that you like and enjoy writing about. Hopefully the keywords you choose are not overly competitive so you can get your foot in the door and establish a profitable website.
